Leave a comment telling me what you dreamed about last night. I find it fascinating. In class today Megan was given as assignment that led her to re contextualize one of her activist pieces. I have posted it below. Here is more information on why its important for us to take a stand against all diamonds. I am pretty old, so I am old fashioned. But this information really made me think. I would never wear a diamond. If I had fingers. The demand from the consumers is what makes diamonds so incredibly powerful. With knowledge that we won’t be able to 100% stop conflict diamonds from being mined and traded (perhaps reduce, but not eliminate) – is that enough to comfort us? Are we ok that 10,000 children will become child soldiers or enslaved workers this year, instead of – say – 50,000?- source: http://cleanleansharp.wordpress.com/2011/08/31/theres-no-such-thing-as-a-conflict-free-diamond/
Assignment: Using a library book as a site specific piece for the next person reading the book. Megan chose "Emily Post's Complete Book of Wedding Etiquette" to highlight how outdated the idea of needing a diamond to be part of a wedding ceremony and marriage is, when most progressive people would agree that having a diamond is not worth the life of a child across the world. Think about it.
